Welcome to the online home of Tim Challies, blogger, author, and book reviewer. The Progressive Nature of Revelation. Ma #revelation. Share. I am about to spiritualize (and very possibly even trivialize) one of the great laws of physics. As you no doubt remember from your days in school, Newton’s Third Law of Motion states. The book of Revelation is the only book in the Bible, that I know of, that has a blessing associated with it for those who will read it—not once but twice! The first blessing is in the first chapter of Revelation in verse 3: “Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it.

While there were skeptics, even early on, about the authorship of the text (most likely due to the apocalyptic nature of the book), the general consensus was that John the apostle was the author. Four reasons exist as to why one should accept Johannine authorship of Revelation. Summary. In the Book of Revelation, the apocalyptic hopes of the early Christian community find their clearest and most complete expression. Apocalypticism was not a new phenomenon among Christians; it was a well-established belief among Jews, who held that the coming of the kingdom of God would not be brought about by a gradual transformation but by a sudden intervention, when God would end. This “revelation of Jesus Christ” contains some of the most glorious descriptions of Him, His bride (the church), and the age to come. Its conclusion is probably the most encouraging message in the Scriptures about the future. However, the middle of this revelation predicts some of the darkest, most terrifying events in history, along with the antichrist and harlot church.

There are two books whence I collect my divinity besides that written one of God, another of His servant, Nature — that universal and public manuscript that lies exposed to the eyes of all. Those who never saw Him in one have discovered Him in the other. I. THE UNIQUE NATURE OF THE BOOK A. IT IS A DIFFERENT KIND OF BOOK 1. Revelation is certainly different from other books of the New Testament 2. It is also very different from most kinds of writing familiar to people today 3. Unfortunately, this has caused many people to shy away from the book 4. Book of Revelation is actually a Christian prophecy book filled with Old Testament-style language and imagery narrating events and descriptions like the mark of the beast, the battle of Armageddon, the binding of Devil, the Rule of the Lord, the Great White Throne of Judgment and the finally the nature of the eternal city of God.
